Dear Literary Agent, here is my heart and soul, my confetti ambitions; a stardust dream. Rake your eyes over my blood, sweat, and tears, a salty hope, a persistent drumming crashing through your Times New Roman font 12 “NOs”. I forgive you, I forgive you, I forgive you — And I’ll keep coming back for more. – Always, Ari
Today, I want to share my rejection with you. It’s not out of pity, sadness, or anger but out of appreciation for any response at all and hope for the future. Four agents I queried took valuable time from their day to respond and those of you who have been querying right along with me know that most of the time, you won’t hear a peep. No news is not good news; it is simply NO. So, it might sound odd but I’m incredibly grateful to hear back, even if it is a rejection.

I greatly appreciate the opportunity to consider your query—thanks for sending it.
Unfortunately, the query didn’t appeal quite enough to my own tastes to inspire me to offer representation or further consideration of your project. I wish I had the time to respond to everyone with constructive criticism, but it would be overwhelming, hence this form response.
This business is highly subjective; many people whose work I haven’t connected with have gone on to critical and commercial success. So, keep after it.
I am grateful that you have afforded me this opportunity to find out about you and your project, and wish you the best of success with your current and future creative work.
All best wishes,

Thanks for your query.
As to your material I’m afraid I will be passing — I’m just not drawn
strongly enough to the concept of your story to feel that I’d be the
right agent for the project. I realize it is difficult to make an
assessment from a query; nevertheless please know that I give serious
attention to every letter, outline, and writing sample I receive.
Sorry I couldn’t give you a more positive reply. Thanks for thinking
of me, though, and best of luck in your search for representation.

Thank you so much for submitting your query to me at
Please know that I read all queries myself and consider each and every submission carefully. Unfortunately, I am going to pass on asking to read the full manuscript of your book – I’m sorry. I wish you the very best in your agent hunt!
